Berhampur: On Saturday, authorities successfully located four eighth-grade girls from Ganjam district in Odisha, who had been reported missing, according to police officials.
The girls were safely returned to their families after being found.
These classmates, all aged 13, had run away following a request from their school headmaster for them to contact their parents regarding a complaint involving one of them.
Out of fear, they misled their parents by claiming they were heading to school on Friday. Instead, they went to a public restroom, changed out of their uniforms, and planned to travel to Bhubaneswar, police reported.
One mother filed a missing person report after her daughter failed to return home from school. During the investigation, authorities discovered that three other girls from the same class were also unaccounted for, stated SP Berhampur Saravana Vivek M.
"We assembled a police team and initiated a search operation for the girls, reviewing CCTV footage in the process," he explained, noting that they were ultimately found near IRE Chhaka in Chamakhandi and reunited with their families.
